West Ham are reportedly preparing a £25m bid for long-term Arsenal target, William Carvalho.

It feels as if Arsenal have been linked with Sporting’s Carvalho since the beginning of time. However, now it appears that West Ham are set to make a £25m (€30m) bid for the midfielder. At least according to Portuguese outlet, Record, they are anyway.

However, the alleged bid will be €15m under his €45m release clause.

The Mirror claim that the Hammers will have to potentially do better than that since Carvalho now has Pep Guardiola’s brother, Pere, representing him.

Arsenal have been linked with Carvalho since 2014 when the Gunners reportedly had an offer of £13m-plus-Joel Campbell rejected by Sporting.

While interest appeared to be genuine back then it’s unclear whether there’s any truth to recent claims that Arsene Wenger will try again for the 25-year-old.

West Ham could potentially be an attractive destination for the midfielder, as three years ago, when Arsenal and Manchester United were heavily linked, he admitted that he wanted to play in either Spain or England one day.

“We all have ambitions and I hope one day to play in the best leagues in the world, the English or Spanish,” he said.

“It was not this year, but if I continue to do my job as I have done so, it will certainly come sooner or later.”

The Portugal international has three years left on his deal at Sporting, where’s been since 2005 when he was just 13.

He’s a key player for the club, making 43 appearances last season in which he scored twice and assisted four times. He’s also already played 90 minutes for Sporting this season against Desportivo Aves, which his side won 2-0.

West Brom, Everton and Manchester City have also been linked with the defensive midfielder.
