Arsène Wenger has said that the club will only continue to buy if an exceptional player is available.

The Gunners have only made a couple of signings so far in the window but both have made very strong starts to their Arsenal careers. Alexandre Lacazette scored within minutes of making his league debut and Kolašinac has a goal and an assist from centre-back in his two competitive games so far.

With Arsenal fans hoping for another signing to keep the team moving forward, Arsène has said that the club aren’t finished in the market yet, but it’s as much about cutting down the squad as anything else. And even then, they’ll only bring in someone exceptional.

Wenger told Sky Sports via Metro: “We are open to an exceptional player. However, just to remind you we have 33 players here and they are all good players.” The strongest links this summer have been to Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Nice’s Jean-Michael Seri.

The Arsenal manager recently stated that Mahrez wasn’t likely to be signed as the Londoners already have Mesut Özil, Alex Iwobi and Jack Wilshere, who he says are: “the same type of players”.

Thomas Lemar on the other hand, is clearly a player that Arsenal have been chasing, but it seems at this point Monaco aren’t going to give in and want to keep the French international for at least another year.

This leaves Seri, whose fate will likely be decided by Nice’s Champions League qualification matches this month. If Nice qualify, Seri leaving the club he’s just helped into Europe’s top competition seems less likely, especially given Arsenal won’t be in the Champions League this season.
