Arsene Wenger has reportedly told Alexis Sanchez he won’t be allowed to join Manchester City or Chelsea this summer.
Alexis Sanchez returned to training yesterday and it was reported that he would be having a meeting with Arsene Wenger about his future. According to the Metro, the outcome of such a meeting was the 28-year-old being told that he would not be sold to Manchester City and Chelsea.
This is not news.
Arsenal’s stance all summer long has been very clear. It’d be very surprising if Alexis didn’t know already that the Gunners don’t want to sell him to a Premier League rival. Alexis would hardly be reeling in surprise.
It has to be a big story, though, because Manchester City have been interested all summer. Chelsea are apparently interested as well, although they’ve barely been mentioned during this whole saga.
The Metro’s interpretation of the story is that Arsenal saying Alexis won’t be sold to a Premier League doesn’t mean they won’t sell him abroad. However, Wenger has made it clear that he when says Alexis won’t be sold, it means he won’t be sold to anyone, anywhere.
That includes Paris Saint-Germain, who stepped up their interest recently but were rebuffed by Arsenal. They could now be paying a tidy sum to sign Neymar from Barcelona.
Arsenal will now be focusing on the Community Shield on Sunday and getting Alexis ready to play in the Premier League as soon as possible.
