According to Football.London, Wenger also added: “He has always been focused. He loves to play football – he is not too much disturbed by the noises. He is very focused, very happy.”
It’s fantastic news for the Arsenal supporters who may have been worried Alexis was deliberately staying away from the side to force a move this summer.
Since joining from Barcelona in 2014, the Chilean international has been desperate to play regardless of his condition. He’s known for taking short summer holidays and playing in post-domestic season tournaments with Chile, so his absence this campaign seemed out of character.
First, he was sick with the flu, then he had an abdominal injury. Supporters weren’t too convinced he was genuinely injured. But should Alexis return against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, all will be forgotten.
Arsenal still have no intention to left the 28-year-old leave the club this summer either, with Wenger having stressed on a number of occasions that he plans to keep Alexis until his deal runs out in 12 months.
The Gunners can now look ahead to their trip to Anfield this weekend, where they need a positive result after losing away to Stoke City last Saturday.
