Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, if this video is anything to go by.

The 20-year-old suffered the ACL injury in May and was ruled out for up to nine months. But this video published on his Instagram account says otherwise.

As reported, Zelalem is already back running again on an anti-gravity treadmill, meaning he could return by the end of the year, months before he was expected to. The midfielder wasn’t expected back for Arsenal until February so he seems to be recovering a lot quicker then anticipated.

Zelalem joined the Arsenal youth ranks in 2013 and broke onto the scene during a pre-season tour, unexpectedly making the squad and putting in a few strong performances, before signing professional terms a year later.

He has made limited appearances for the Gunners, with only four competitive games on his record, and has missed out on more first-team action due to his injury woes.

Zelalem has had a couple of loan spells, first to Rangers in 2015/16 and then to VVV-Venlo in 2017, where he scored his first senior goal. Both of these provided him with the opportunity for regular game time, something which no doubt he would’ve been hoping for again this season, whether on loan or with Arsenal.

But after the injury sustained whilst on international duty with the United States youth team, the focus now moves to recovery and rehabilitation, and fortunately the signs seem good so far on this front. Still only 20 years old, Zelalem has plenty of time to continue his development when he’s back in action.
