Gabriel has signed a five-year deal with Valencia with a whopping €80m release clause.

The Brazilian, who never really settled at Arsenal after he arrived in 2015 for a fee not far off what they have recouped from Valencia, will speak with the media on Saturday.

In a statement on the La Liga side’s website, they gave details of his deal. They wrote, “Valencia CF have reached an agreement with Arsenal FC for the transfer of Gabriel Armando de Abreu, Gabriel Paulista.

“The Brazilian player has joined Valencia CF for the next 5 seasons, until the 30th of June, 2022, with a buyout clause of 80 million euros.

“Gabriel Paulista will speak to media on Saturday, 19th of August, at VCF’s training ground media centre; the time is to be confirmed.”

Making a total of 64 appearances for Arsenal, Gabriel was a confusing player. While his passion won over many fans, his ability was never quite up to the level expected at Arsenal and he struggled with the move and new language.

His move to Valencia means that Arsenal are still the only team that Gabriel has played for in his senior career that doesn’t begin with a ‘V’ (Vitoria, Villarreal).

Gabriel’s sale also frees up the number 5 shirt at the club and you would have to think that Arsenal will move to bring in another central defender before the window shuts at the end of the month.

To not do so would be suicide.
