Steven N’Zonzi has reportedly handed in a transfer request.

N’Zonzi has allegedly asked Sevilla if he can leave the La Liga club this summer, with Arsenal being linked.

The former Stoke star, who scored a screamer against the Gunners at the Emirates Cup in pre-season, apparently wants to leave, reports Spanish outlet, Estadio Deportivo, who claim to have spoken to his representative.

“The truth is that Steven wants to leave this summer,” his agent said, reports the Sun.

“Everybody at Sevilla knows that, the president and the technical staff are aware of it and we hope he will be sold this summer.”

Arsenal have apparently scouted the 28-year-old ‘extensively’. However, whether they’re actually interested or not remains to be seen. Although, if he’s handed in a transfer request, you have to imagine that the Frenchman at least has reason to believe that a club somewhere wants him.

The midfielder has three years on his current deal with Sevilla and a €40m (£36.1m) release clause. So he’s not exactly cheap.

However, if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain does end up leaving this summer for either Chelsea or Liverpool, and Barcelona end up signing Jean-Michael Seri, perhaps the Gunners will be looking to strengthen their midfield.

N’Zonzi is still in his prime and has Premier League experience.

The defensive midfielder signed for Sevilla from the Potters two years ago and has since gone on to make a whopping 92 appearances over all competitions, including 35 in La Liga last season.

He’s also scored seven goals and assisted five.
