Steven Gerrard says that the Gunners have the best attack in the Premier League.

Arsenal couldn’t score as the team crashed to defeat against Stoke City on Saturday, but nonetheless Gerrard picked the North London club as the team with the most dangerous attack.

Speaking to BT Sport, the former Liverpool midfielder said: “They’ve added Lacazette and he looks a real buy. Arsenal’s problems aren’t going forward, they’ve got Sanchez to add to what they’ve already got, Welbeck’s back fit, Ramsey’s available to go in from the start.

“We always know that Arsenal are going to create chances. In the final third they are probably the best team in the Premier League in terms of creating and scoring goals.”

Although Steven then went on to talk about the problems at the back, this is a fairly ringing endorsement of the Gunners’ attacking options at least. The problem is that the attack never reached its best in the match at the Bet 365 Stadium.

Gerrard said that Lacazette “only needs one chance to score a goal”, but the French striker didn’t even get that one chance on Saturday. The only time he did have an opportunity to shoot, and duly smashed a shot into the top corner, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Meanwhile Welbeck’s efforts were all straight down the middle or wide of the target, and Giroud couldn’t do any better when he joined the team from the bench.

If Gerrard’s comments are accurate then this was hopefully just an off-day for the Gunners, and Alexis will certainly provide something extra on his return. The first match against Leicester brought goals for Lacazette, Welbeck and Giroud, so on their day the trio can bring danger from multiple angles.

The next step is to do this consistently, starting with the match against Liverpool at Anfield next Sunday.
