After spending £200m funding Neymar’s buyout clause, PSG have apparently turned to reported Arsenal target Jean Michael Seri for their next transfer.

Seri plays for Nice in Ligue 1, and had a very strong season in 2016/17 scoring seven goals as well as adding nine assists in his 34 games in central midfield. He’s started 2017/18 similarly strongly, getting two assists in Nice’s two Champions League qualification games in the last couple of weeks.

The second assist got Arsenal fans particularly excited. The midfielder made a run into the box, and the through ball he was chasing was heading out for a goal kick. In a moment of impressive improvisation he played a back-heel into the middle for Nice’s equaliser.

Next up in European qualification, Nice face Napoli, one of the tougher teams they could’ve come up against. This is likely good news for Arsenal, since Napoli will be the favourites and the lack of Champions League football at the Emirates could put Seri off leaving Nice for the Gunners this summer if the French club qualify for it.

However, Metro are reporting worse news that PSG are now planning to activate Seri’s release clause of £36m. Nice have said that they only plan to sell the player if his release clause is met, so Arsenal would have to be ready to pay the full amount for the Ivorian.

It would seem impossible that any European club could pay twice the world record fee (and a bit more) for a player, and then have another £36m to spare for someone else. But PSG seem to be rewriting the rules as they go right now.
