Paris Saint-Germain president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, insists that the Ligue 1 giants won’t be tapping up Alexis Sanchez, nor have they been… which is good to know.

Al-Khelaifi claims that the French club, who have approached Arsene Wenger more than once over him becoming manager, have too much respect for Arsenal to go behind Le Professeur’s back.

“If I want Alexis Sanchez I’m going to talk to Arsene Wenger,” Al-Khelaifi said, reports the Daily Star.

“We have respect for Arsenal [and have] excellent relations.”

These comments come after there were rumours circulating that PSG had been having secret meetings with the forward.

Although PSG have been heavily linked with Alexis in recently weeks, the £198m signing of Neymar from Barcelona is likely to put an end to that.

The Chilean has less than a year left on his current deal with Arsenal and has made his feelings on not playing in the Champions League this season perfectly clear. However, as Wenger says, the 28-year-old has a contract to honour and therefore insists that he’ll be staying in north London, whether he puts pen to paper on an extension or not.

Manchester City were also linked earlier in the summer but rumours suggesting that Alexis is pushing a move to the Etihad in order to reunite with Pep Guardiola appear to have fizzled out, which suggests that maybe he is staying put.

The forward scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, and assisted 19, which makes his astonishingly important to the side. And while Arsenal fans don’t want unhappy players, there are many who hope that if the Gunners can regain their Champions League spot at the end of the 2017/18 season, he’ll decide to stay long-term after all.
