Emmanuel Petit has said that Arsenal do not have the same ambition as Manchester City.

In football, ambition is only measured by how much money a club spends and how many players are brought in, apparently.

Hence, Petit’s recent comments about Arsenal’s approach to the transfer window are expected and far from revolutionary.

“Arsenal are an example to clubs around Europe – very few make a profit like they do each season,” Petit said, as reported by The Express.

“Most of the teams who have won the Premier League and Champions League have been splashing money around, spending their prize money on wages and transfers – but Arsenal are not like that, they try to manage the right balance between income and expenditure.

“They don’t have the same ambition.

“This has perhaps changed over the years, with the signings of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Lacazette.

“It shows Arsenal are capable of spending big, but I don’t think we’ll see them spending £200m in one window like Man City have.

“Even though they do need some more big name players if possible.”

Arsenal have signed two players this window: Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette. One was free, and therefore not a signing worth discussion, while Lacazette is just one £52m player.

We could do with a couple more signings, but how much they cost isn’t as important as the quality they add to the team.

It’s also important to point out that Arsenal have no hopes of competing financially against clubs financed by entire countries. City have limitless funds, while our budget is substantial but finite.

Arsenal are currently focusing on selling players, and have seemingly finished buying.

Thomas Lemar was our top target, but that has ultimately gone nowhere. At the moment, there are no other major links to players.
