Michael Owen has predicted that Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette will win the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

The Premier League Golden Boot race looks set to be one of the most competitive in recent seasons, with the majority of the top-six clubs possessing a big name, big money striker.

Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton, Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, Spurs have Harry Kane and City have Sergio Aguero. Arsenal, of course, broke their transfer record to sign Alexandre Lacazette.

Ask anyone who they think will score the most goals in the Premier League next season and I bet few of them would say Lacazette. Former Liverpool striker-turned-pundit Michael Owen, though, has made the surprising prediction that an Arsenal player will win something this season.

When asked by the Premier League‘s official website who he thinks will win the Golden Boot, Owen said: “Alexandre Lacazette is a proven goalscorer. He had the highest chance conversion rate in Europe’s top five leagues last season and Arsenal create plenty of chances, so he should get plenty of opportunities.”

It’s actually refreshing to see a pundit acknowledge Lacazette’s record in France without the “it’s not the Premier League” caveat. The Frenchman has plenty of pedigree and should be able to score plenty of goals if he adapts successfully.

Lacazette scored two goals in pre-season and was unfortunate not to score against Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday. Supporters will hope he can get off to a quick start against Leicester City on Friday evening.
