Joel Campbell insists he’s motivated as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

Campbell has stepped up his recovery work ahead of his return.

The forward tore a ligament in his knee back in July during Costa Rica’s 1-1 Gold Cup match against Canada.

The 25-year-old was stretchered off just 24 minutes into the game, and required surgery to help fix the injury.

Campbell has since been slowly starting his rehabilitation, which appears to have consisted of massage, infrared therapy to promote healing and pain relief, and most recently training exercises with a speed and agility ladder.

The Costa Rica international seems to be attached to resistance bands while doing the routine training drill, which could be helping to strength and condition his muscles. The fact that he’s able to do this without any pain supports the theory that he could return in six to eight weeks, rather than the six months that was initially predicted.

Campbell has just one year left on his current Arsenal deal. Therefore, his injury has raised questions over his future, since the Gunners can’t exactly sell him now.

The former Saprissa winger has been out on loan five times since signing for Arsenal in 2011, and it doesn’t look as if he’s getting anywhere near the first team, even when fit. Therefore, it stands to reason that he could be sold in January.

Campbell underwent surgery in Costa Rica, which is presumably where he still is.

It’ll be interesting to see if he returns to Arsenal for further treatment ahead of his return.
