Monaco’s players have reportedly been informed that Kylian Mbappé is leaving to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The 18-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation for much of the summer, with top clubs from all over Europe chasing his signature.

Initially it was assumed that PSG spending £200m on Neymar would be the end of their summer business, but this seems now not to be the case.

There have been rumours of interest in Nice’s Jean-Michael Seri, but now Foot Mercato via Metro are reporting that Monaco players have been told Mbappé could be on his way to the Parc des Princes.

Arsenal were linked with the French international earlier in the summer after Arsène Wenger confirmed his admiration for the player. But there’s no suggestion from him or any other reliable source that the story goes further than that.

The problem lies with the fact that even if Arsenal could muster up over £100m from the reserves, they might not be willing to spend that much on one player.

Mbappé shows a lot of promise, but he’s still just one 18-year-old. If he picked up an injury, didn’t continue to replicate his good form or decided to force a move to Madrid in a couple of years, Arsenal could pick up a massive bill for nothing.

If they’re willing to take the risk, they’ll need to act fast with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly closing in.
