Manchester United and Chelsea’s new signings, Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata, have been tipped to do better than Alexandre Lacazette this season despite the former Lyon forward actually scoring more than both of them last term.

Lacazette cost £52m – significantly less than Lukaku (£75m) and Morata (£70m). However, last season, he scored 37 goals in 45 appearances, compared to Lukaku, who netted 26 in 39, and Morata who scored 20 in 43.

Despite this, the former Lyon striker isn’t even in the top five players that the bookies have tipped to win the Golden Boot this season, and Lukaku and Morata are.

The France international didn’t even get a mention in Rio Ferdinand’s top five transfers video. Nor did Sead Kolasinac, but you’d at least expect Lacazette to get a look-in considering Arsenal broke their club record to sign him.

So, what is it? Do people genuinely not rate Lacazette, despite him being consistently lethal over the past three seasons?

As if to prove a point, Lacazette scored his first competitive goal for Arsenal within two minutes of setting foot on the Emirates pitch against Leicester on Friday night.

The 26-year-old not only scored a lovely header, he continued to give everything throughout the game, and rightfully earned a large chunk of the praise post-match.
