Manchester United are reportedly keen on Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and could well beat Arsenal in the race for his signature.

According to the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho’s side are looking for a goal-scoring and creating right-winger, potentially as a long-term replacement for Juan Mata, I’d guess.

Manchester United have already spent around £150m on new signings this summer but are keen to bring in more goals to the side for their challenge on all four fronts this season – Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup.

It’s bad news for Arsenal, with the Gunners having three bids previously rejected by Monaco. The Ligue 1 side reportedly wanted more money than Arsene Wenger was willing to pay, and if United secure Lemar’s signature supporters won’t be pleased.

Lemar enjoyed a standout campaign for Monaco in 2016/17, scoring and creating 19 goals in 34 Ligue 1 games, as the French giants stormed to the title and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Despite their stance that no more players will be leaving this summer, Monaco are likely to allow Lemar to exit the Stade Louis II if their asking price is met, I think. With a number of last season’s stars having been sold to Manchester City and Chelsea, it’s my opinion that Lemar might consider his future brighter elsewhere too.

It’s unknown if Arsenal will renew their interest following Manchester United’s reported approach.
