Lucas Perez could end up staying at Arsenal as a deal with Deportivo continues to stall.

While Arsenal continue to spiral into madness, spare a thought for Lucas Perez, who can’t seem to escape. According to PA Sport journalist Mark Mann-Bryans, the Spanish striker could end up staying at Arsenal as a deal with Deportivo isn’t close.

Arsenal and Deportivo have been in negotiations for a long time as the two try to bridge a vast financial gap. The Spanish club aren’t able to pay the £13m Arsenal want. It was believed that the two sides would be working out a way to get around that.

However, with three days of the window remaining, it appears they’re no closer to a solution. It would be a big blow to Lucas, who is desperate to return to his hometown club and start playing regularly again.

He still has ambitions of breaking into the Spain squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup, and clearly won’t do that by sitting in Arsenal’s reserves. A lot can still happen in these final days.

We’ll see if one of the many clubs that are supposedly interested will come in for him instead.
