Sead Kolašinac has had a strong start to his Arsenal career, and as a result the fans have been full of praise for the player this week.

Kolašinac has been speaking to the Arsenal website about how things have been going so far. The Bosnian defender had a rather uneventful beginning with the Gunners, with his pre-season debut against Sydney FC providing hardly any challenges.

After that he had a lot more trouble in the match against Bayern, where illness unfortunately forced him off before the first half had even ended. However, since then Sead has gone from strength to strength.

Against Benfica in the Emirates Cup Kolašinac had the chance to show his skills on the left hand side, and he put in a fantastic performance showcasing everything he can bring to the team.

The new signing assisted the first goal of the match after utilising all of his strength to muscle the defender off the ball, and he was heavily involved in two more goals that day.

The Arsenal fans were therefore excited to see him test himself competitively against Chelsea in the Community Shield, where he was at first dropped to the bench. After an injury to Mertesacker saw him brought into the game, Sead showed what all the fuss was about.

With a defensively solid performance, the more eye-catching moments came whenever the Bosnian decided to go marauding forwards. He showed power and speed, and eventually came up with a late equaliser, helping the Gunners to victory on penalties.

Sead talked about how it felt to score that goal, saying “It’s an indescribable feeling. I think that’s why we play football and I believe that’s what characterises the sport.

“You enjoy it when you run out, especially at somewhere like Wembley and it’s sold out with over 80,000 fans there. That’s something very special and that’s the dream of every footballer. That’s why you work so hard, to experience moments like that.”

The player has been nicknamed the ‘Bosnian Hulk’ and ‘The Tank’ in the past, and the fans have taken to these nicknames, sending him images and GIFs all week. Sead himself has enjoyed looking through these in his time off.

He told the site: “I’ve seen some photos on Instagram which fans have edited, and I found them really funny. I’m happy to have had such a good start here. In Bosnia they call me that [The Tank] too! I’m happy to have such a cool nickname.”
