Midfielder Jean-Michael Seri has said that he hasn’t yet played his last match for Nice, after losing to Napoli in their Champions League qualifier.
There have been strong rumours linking the player to Barcelona this week, but speaking after Nice’s 2-0 defeat, Seri told the media that nothing was done yet, saying via World Soccer Talk: “No it was not my last match for Nice. I will be at Amiens on Saturday.”
When asked about the ongoing negotiations and whether he plans to leave, Seri said: “I don’t know much about it. I said to everyone to leave me to concentrate on the Champions League and that after we would see if I stayed or went.”
Arsenal were also linked with the Ivorian midfielder, as the Gunners were rumoured to be looking for a player to partner Granit Xhaka in midfield, especially with the injury-prone nature of the rest of the club’s midfield options.
Seri had a breakthrough season for Nice in Ligue 1 last year, scoring seven goals and assisting nine in 34 league appearances with the club. He’s also had a solid start to the current campaign, assisting three goals in his first six games in all competitions.
Therefore links to top clubs have been appearing all over the news, and it now seems most likely that Barcelona plan to spend more of their Neymar cash on the player, I feel, having already brought in Paulinho for almost £37m.
As usual, Barcelona have been up to their usual tricks, with players like Xavi talking about how well Seri would do at Barcelona, in the same way they used to do with Fabregas and have been trying to do with Hector Bellerín.
Now that the Champions League is done for Nice for the year, the next move seemingly lies with Seri and what he decides to do next.
