Real Madrid midfielder Isco has confirmed he will snub interest from Arsenal and Manchester United to sign a new contract this summer.

Isco, who has 12 months remaining on his current Real contract, has seemingly killed any last hope of someone signing him by confirming he’s close to agreeing a new deal. The comment was made after Madrid’s 2-1 win over Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup in Skopje.

“We’re very close and it will be done soon,” Isco said, as reported by the Independent. Isco was instrumental in that victory, scoring what turned out to be the winning goal. There were reports that Arsenal and Manchester United could sign Isco should he not agree a new deal with the European champions.

Isco has been linked with Arsenal for several years, ever since he was a Malaga player. However, the Spanish midfielder has become a more important star for Madrid after injury ruled Gareth Bale out for a good chunk of last season. He now seems to be a key player for Zinedine Zidane.

It took a few years for him to truly settle at Madrid and get a first-team place, during which he was always linked with other clubs who would make him a guaranteed starter. It now looks like his short and long term future remain at Real Madrid.
