Inter Milan are interested in Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports.

Sky Sports journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, generally considered to be pretty reliable when it comes to transfers, has claimed on his website that Inter have reached out to Arsenal over the possibility of a transfer.

According to the article, Inter manager Luciano Spalletti is looking to add a defender to his side before the end of the transfer window, and has made contact with Arsenal over Mustafi, as well as Manchester City over Mangala.

From an Arsenal point of view, Mustafi isn’t a player that the Gunners would want to lose. Having only joined the club last summer, for a reported fee of £35m, Shkodran had a solid first year, and since joining Arsenal’s need for experienced centre-backs has only grown stronger.

Firstly, the formation change means that the team now play with an extra defender in a three back, so the Gunners can’t afford to go into the season without plenty of options at centre-back.

But to add to this, other than bringing in Kolašinac, who will likely play most of his games at wing-back, most of the rumours in the window so far have been about defensive exits for Arsenal.

Gabriel appears close to completing a move to Valencia, Calum Chambers has been linked with multiple moves away, Krystian Bielik could be loaned out, but no one seems close to joining.

So regardless of what Inter Milan are willing to offer, I think Arsenal would be best served hanging onto the German World Cup winner.
