Thierry Henry has questioned why any of Arsenal’s top players would stay at the club, after the Gunners suffered a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The club’s record goalscorer believes the reason Arsenal have so many players on the final year of their contract is simply because they see no reason to extend.

“It doesn’t look right for those guys to stay,” he said, as reported by The Sun. “We talk about Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sanchez and are they staying but they are not going to want to be part of this team.

“That is why players are not renewing their contracts, they can see something is wrong at Arsenal. Why would you want to stay? Why stay at a club that puts in performances like that? They don’t want to play like this.”

Henry wasn’t as visibly angry as other pundits were yesterday. Instead, he was just disappointed and resigned to the whole thing. None of this is surprising to him.

Still, it should be mentioned that the players looking to leave are just as part of the problem as anyone else. The likes of Chamberlain and Alexis shouldn’t be able to take the high ground just because they feel the club isn’t treating them correctly.

Arsenal are a mess and things clearly aren’t right. As a player, you would be very worried about what’s going on. At the same time, that’s no excuse for someone like Chamberlain to play like he didn’t give a damn as he did yesterday.

Nor is it helpful for Alexis to continually play the martyr. Supporters aren’t falling for the tricks from the players and are placing the blame on them as well as the manager and board.
