Arsenal legend, Gilberto Silva, reckons that Jack Wilshere just needs to focus on his football right now.
Gilberto believes that Wilshere needs to focus on his football at the moment and take the opportunity that he’s been given at Arsenal.
“It is down to Wilshere and Wilshere alone. His has great ability he knows that; everybody knows that, so he just needs to concentrate on his game,” he told 888sport.
“He needs to forget about what is around him, just focus on football. I could say something to him but if he doesn’t understand the importance of focus, then it is his career. He has to question himself; ‘What do I want for myself for this season and the future?’
“He has an opportunity and it’s not very often someone has the opportunity that he has. Arsene and the club are giving him an opportunity and he has to grab it.”
The former defensive midfielder’s comments come after Wilshere’s outburst in Arsenal’s u23 match against Manchester City at the Emirates earlier this week.
The 25-year-old is only just returning to fitness after once again suffering a hairline fracture to his fibula while on loan at Bournemouth that season. It’s the most recent in a long line of similar, serious injuries so, understandably, when City’s Matty Smith went bulldozing into him, he flipped his lid and got red-carded.
Wilshere’s known for not being able to keep his head during matches, especially when it comes to people sliding in for silly challenges, but, as Gilberto says, the England international needs to focus on his football because this is only going to keep happening.
There’s a reason why he’s targeted so often.
While I completely understand Wilshere’s anger, he can’t react like that every single time someone slides in recklessly because he’ll end up picking up reds left, right and centre.
The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer since he has less than a year on his current deal.
Whether he actually will or not remains to be seen.
