European football expert, Gabriele Marcotti, claims that Arsene Wenger could be sacked in January.

Marcotti tells ESPN FC he believes that if Arsenal are still in the bleak position they’re facing at the moment by Christmas, Wenger will be sacked after almost 22 years at the club.

“I think they will (finish in the top seven) because that is setting the bar pretty low,” Marcotti said.

“I’m also not sure that Everton are going to make that much progress.

“I think they definitely will finish inside the top seven.

“Remember, if things get really, really hard and they have to make a painful move, I think they will do it.

“They’ll spend in January if they need to, I think they’ll even change their manager in January if everything is falling apart and they need to.

“What is unthinkable is Arsenal outside the top seven, eight, even in a transition season.

“I think that is (Stan) Kroenke’s limit, I don’t think it goes beyond that.

“After that, he starts losing money and it starts hurting him.”

Wenger was handed a two-year contract extension at the end of the 2016/17 season despite many feeling as if his time at Arsenal had run its course. Some shouted louder and more aggressively than others, but regardless, most people were in agreement.

However, the fans were promised change and reassured that Wenger was still the man for the job.

Three matches into the new season and it couldn’t be more apparent that this isn’t the case.

The Gunners have won just three points out of a possible nine with three terrible performances. They only narrowly managed to beat Leicester on the opening day of the season.

On Sunday, however, fans were ‘treated’ to one of the worst Arsenal displays since… probably last season. The players looked uninspired and tired at Anfield, as Liverpool thrashed the Gunners 4-0.

Does Stan Kroenke have a limit, as Marcotti claims, or will be forced to endure this Arsenal side for another two years… or more?
