The Daily Mail have decided to make a big deal out of the fact that Alexis Sanchez has been called up for Chile’s World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay and Bolivia.

Chile coach, Juan Antonio Pizzi, has confirmed that Alexis has been called up for his country’s World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay and Bolivia and the Daily Mail are up in arms because the forward’s meant to be injured.

Alexis missed Arsenal’s season-opener against Leicester City, which the Gunners won 4-3, as not only was he not fit enough to play competitive football since he returned late from his summer break after his involvement in the Confederations Cup, he’s also apparently suffered an abdominal injury.

Arsene Wenger confirmed that this injury would keep him sidelined for not just the Leicester game, which the boss claimed the 28-year-old probably wouldn’t have featured in anyway, but the Stoke game as well. However, Alexis could return for the Liverpool match.

The Liverpool match is on 27 August.

Chile’s World Cup Qualifier against Paraguay isn’t until 31 August and the clash against Bolivia is five days later, which suggests that Alexis, who’s never been a player to shy away from international duty, will be fit and ready to play by then.

This was always the story. Wenger had always said that he would miss a couple of matches but the forward was back training well.

Therefore, Pizzi knows that Alexis will probably be fit by the end of the month.

For all I know, Alexis is trying to force a move away from Arsenal but I really don’t think his call-up when he’s ‘supposed to be injured’ means anything.
