Chelsea have joined Tottenham in the race for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, meaning Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may not be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Barkley, like Oxlade-Chamberlain, has 12-months remaining on his contract and looks almost certain to leave the club this summer. Manager Ronald Koeman had admitted numerous times that Barkley will leave. However, Everton’s initial £50m asking price has put off interested clubs.

According to the Telegraph, though, Tottenham and Chelsea believe they could sign Barkley for £25m. Spurs believe that the 23-year-old’s contract situation and Koeman’s admission that he will be sold will allow them to sign him on the cheap. Chelsea, meanwhile, want to bolster their attacking options and add more home-grown players to their squad.

Arsenal have also been linked with Barkley, with the Daily Star claiming that we could sign him if we lose Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. He’s also been linked with Chelsea, like Barkley, but Arsenal don’t want to sell him to a domestic rival. Arsene Wenger has a bloated squad but he’s willing to retain the Ox and try to convince him to sign a new deal in 2017/18.

Liverpool are still circling the Arsenal midfielder, with reports suggesting he could cost around £25m this summer. But no movement has been made.
