There are still a couple of days for Liverpool to sign Alexis Sanchez, says Alan Brazil, despite the Reds clearly setting their sights on another Arsenal player and target from Ligue 1.

That statement was made in response to Ray Wilkins’ ramblings on talkSPORT via the Express. The former Chelsea player-turned-pundit was saying that if he were in charge of Liverpool, he’d be selling Philippe Coutinho and trying to sign Alexis.

“I didn’t think they’d be offering (Raheem) Sterling to be perfectly honest,” Wilkins said. “Alright you’re going to get Alexis Sanchez, who I think is a more productive player than Sterling at this moment in his career.

“You have got seven years to play with but I did think Sanchez was one of the best players in the Premier League last year. I thought he was world class for Arsenal and he makes things happen.

“What I would have done if I was Liverpool, I would have sold Coutinho and brought in Sanchez to Liverpool.” It’s not the worst idea in the world. The two don’t play in the same position and Liverpool have a pretty decent forward line, but it could work.

In response to this, Alan Brazil said: “It still might happen, mate, got a couple of days.”

Indeed, anything could happen between now and Thursday evening. Liverpool might sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, then decide to screw with Arsenal further by putting £70m down for Alexis, too.

Meanwhile, the Chilean international could reject a move to Manchester City, despite flirting with them all summer. He’ll forsake his long-awaited reunion with Pep Guardiola for an exciting relationship with Jurgen Klopp, who’ll give him plenty of opportunity to run around aimlessly.

Alexis is currently with Chile where he’ll play a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay. Whether he’ll still be an Arsenal player come Friday morning we’ll soon find out.
