It’s probably fair to say that most Arsenal fans are pretty pleased with their club for offloading Carl Jenkinson on Birmingham City.

Jenks has been linked with a move away from Arsenal all summer and while his switch to Birmingham is just on a season-long loan, it’s unlikely that the right-back will play for the Gunners again.

The 25-year-old did only have a year left on his current deal. However, Arsenal appear to have extended this up until 2020. Presumably, tying certain other first team players down is priority right now and they’ll deal with the Englishman at a later date.

Most Gooners are just happy to see the defender out of their club. While Jenks is likable and a life-long Arsenal fan himself, he just wasn’t good enough and since returning from his knee injury he suffered while on loan at West Ham, he made just five senior appearances.

Other fans are more concerned with bringing players in than shipping them out, as Arsenal’s defence hardly looks solid at this point in time. However, to bring players in, you often have to offload them first. It’s just the way most clubs have to conduct business unless they have a sugar daddy somewhere.

Here’s how Gooners reacted on Twitter following the news.
