Nacho Monreal celebrated Arsenal’s opening day victory over Leicester City by visiting an owl sanctuary, and supporters couldn’t help themselves making fun of him for it.
The Spaniard decided that the best way to unwind after an emotional opening day win over Leicester wasn’t to chill with family or friends, but to go spend some time with owls, reports the Daily Mail. In fact, not only did he go visit, he even named one. Say hello to Oli the Owl.
Inevitably, the Arsenal fans took the opportunity poke some fun. Responses to his Instagram post asked why Monreal was hanging out with Olivier Giroud, while one member dropped a classic pun by asking if it was “Mesut Owl-zil”. Genius.
On Twitter, one fan feared Monreal was going full Alan Partridge on us.

Monreal played in the middle of Arsenal’s back three against Leicester due to a lack of centre-back options. The Spaniard struggled in the air a bit but otherwise acquitted himself well in an unfamiliar position.
The natural left-back was expected to be cover for both wing-back and the left-sided centre back this season, but has had to cover other positions due to injury.
