Arsenal have made made a “concrete offer” for Club Brugge defender Bjorn Engels, according to his agent.

Engels, a 22-year-old centre back, has been linked with a move to Arsenal before, and is now being pushed towards the Premier League once again.

His agent, Ivan Reggiani, has spoken to Italian media about interest from Serie A club Sampdoria. He just so happened to mention Arsenal and Tottenham as well.

“I see him more in the Premier League, he’s a player I would definitely invest in, because he still has a relatively affordable figure, about €10m. I wouldn’t think twice,” Reggiani told Calciomercato.

“The only problem, as I know, is that both Arsenal and Tottenham have already made concrete offers. I think at the moment with Sampdoria there is no history for the player.”

Arsenal do happen to need a new defender following the sale of Gabriel to Valencia.

However, this link feels very tenuous. Arsenal haven’t been linked with Engels since last summer, and even then it was far from a concrete link.

There are also doubts about Engel’s ability to play in the Premier League. He has struggled with injuries during his young career, and has only recently become a first team regular for Brugge.

If Arsenal are planning in bringing in a centre back soon, you’d think they’d be setting their sights a lot higher than Engels.

Engels has also been linked with Stoke, but a move doesn’t appear to be close.

He’s made 102 appearances for Club Brugge, and has just two caps for the Belgium U21 team.
