Arsenal will only attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Julian Draxler if they lose Alexis Sanchez this summer, according to latest reports.

Arsenal have been frequently linked with Draxler over the years and the rumours have resurfaced after Paris Saint-Germain signed Neymar. With Arsenal thought to be looking at an inside forward, the German international has been mentioned as an option.

However, according to Football London, the Gunners will only go for him if they lose Alexis Sanchez this summer. They state that Arsenal feel they don’t need any more forwards as long as the Chilean international remains at the club, which could be the case if Arsene Wenger gets his way.

Arsenal’s sudden stance might seem strange given their long pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar. However, Football London also report that Wenger saw Lemar as someone who could play centrally, either as a number 10 or as a central midfielder. Earlier today, the Arsenal manager confirmed any deal for Lemar is “dead” due to Monaco’s refusal to sell him.

With no real interest in Draxler either, it now seems that Wenger’s priority is trimming down his squad and keeping hold of Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
