It seems that Arsenal fans have found a new potential target to drool over: Marco Asensio.

Asensio is currently angling for a new improved contract with Real Madrid and is allegedly using Arsenal to do so.

Despite the 21-year-old still having five years on his current deal with Los Blancos, the midfielder is said to be demanding £5.5m-a-year in wages. He’s supposedly using the Gunners’ apparent interest as proof that he deserves more.

The media hoopla means that Gooners who may not have paid that much attention to Asensio in the past now are and, sure enough, they like what they see.

The Spain u21 international not only scored in Real Madrid’s Champions League final win over Juventus, he scored against rivals Barcelona in the Super Cup this week. And what a goal it was.

Naturally, most football fans tend to tune in to Real Madrid v Barcelona. However, I imagine there were probably a few more than usual considering Arsenal have been linked with Asensio, who has a release clause of £72m.

Gooners on Twitter are convinced that he’s the man Arsenal need to take them forward and that £72m is just mere pennies considering how much potential he has.
