Marco Asensio’s future at Real Madrid has become a hot topic for discussion recently, with latest reports suggesting Arsenal are lining up a big bid for the 21-year-old.

Reports from Football.London suggest that the player has a £72m release clause and that Arsenal would be willing to meet it. Asensio recently scoring a screamer in Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona but hasn’t publicly stated a desire to leave.

“Since the beginning of the season I knew I wanted to stay here, I wanted to gain minutes to play these kind of games and it’s been an incredible season. With Real Madrid I will try to get more minutes, more important minutes, and continue winning titles,” he said in June.

The Spanish forward is one of the most highly-rated young players in world football at the moment. He has appeared for the Spanish youth teams at multiple levels, including the European U21 Championships this year, where he scored a hat-trick. He has also made three appearances for the senior side.

Last season, Asensio scored 10 goals for Madrid, having joined from Espanyol the previous summer. He has a number of trophies already from his short time in Madrid: The Club World Cup, the Champions League, two UEFA Super Cups and a La Liga title.

It’s no surprise why Arsenal are interested, especially given the likes of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere have struggled with injuries. But it’s unknown if they will really match his £72m release clause.
