Arsenal are reportedly still keen on Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, despite previous claims that the Gunners had withdrawn their interest this summer.

Many by this point have accepted that Arsenal aren’t going to sign Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez. Despite persistent links, the Gunners never made a move and manager Arsene Wenger denied any interest. However, that hasn’t stopped the Daily Star from linking Arsenal to him again.

According to their report, Arsenal and Liverpool are still ‘monitoring’ the player after Roma failed with a bid of £32m. I’m not entirely sure what needs to be monitored. Mahrez wants to leave, Roma have been trying to sign him and Leicester have been holding out for £50m.

An opening to sign him has been there since the start of the summer. You’d hope that if Arsenal were still interested that they weren’t just monitoring the situation. It was believed that Mahrez was Arsenal’s back-up target in case they couldn’t sign Thomas Lemar.

It turned out that Arsenal wanted Lemar and Lemar only. Since then, Arsenal have been focusing on selling players. The chances of any new signing, nevermind Mahrez, arriving seems very low.

Arsene Wenger has said he’s content with his current options and will only add players to the squad when a host more leave in the coming days.
