After beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties in the Community Shield, it’s time to question whether we’re ready for the new season yet.
After the Gunners’ loss to Sevilla in the Emirates Cup, Gooners weren’t feeling too positive ahead of the 2017/18 season. Last season’s fifth-place finish meant the fans needed something a little bit more inspiring.
However, while the performance against Chelsea wasn’t perfect, it was a lot more encouraging. And it seems that you lot agree.
Regardless of the result after penalties, do you think Arsenal are ready for new season?

At the time of writing, 51% of you thought that the team needs fine-tuning, while 21% reckon we’re not ready for the new season and need to make more signings between now and Friday.
You lot were obviously feeling uncharacteristically optimistic after the Community Shield win, since 28% believe we looked ready.
I still very much feel that this side needs fine-tuning. Perhaps we do need a new signing or two but the main issue isn’t with a lack of quality players, it’s the same silly tactical mistakes we’ve been making for years.
For example, for Chelsea’s goal just after the second half kicked off, the entire team just watched Victor Moses score. No one really did anything to stop it and it’s this type of terrible defending that often sees us punished.
If Chelsea didn’t have some sort of allergy to actually turning up at Wembley, we could have been spanked.
Thankfully we weren’t and hopefully that means we can start the season against Leicester on Friday feeling confident.
It’s that winning mentality that we need to harness and if we can do that, we’re ready for the league.
