Now he’s back training for Arsenal and having overcome the flu, Alexis Sanchez is in line to feature in Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea, according to latest reports.

The Chilean international hasn’t seen Arsene Wenger since the end of May, last featuring in the FA Cup final win over Chelsea. Soon after the Gunners picked up their latest piece of silverware, Alexis was off to the Confederations Cup for his country, losing in the final to Germany.

He was then given an extended holiday by his manager in order to rest after a gruelling season. According to the Guardian, he’s now returned for Arsenal and is available for selection. Wenger previously hinted he could put the 28-year-old on the bench for the Chelsea fixture, meaning supporters could see the forward in action this weekend.

Arsenal have said Alexis will stay at the Emirates Stadium for one more season, although rumours will be swirling around the club until the summer transfer window is closed. Until then, he will be lining up in the red and white kit and aiding the Gunners in their quest for Champions League football.

Chelsea beat Arsenal in a pre-season friendly this summer but lost the last competitive meeting between the two London rivals, at Wembley in the 2017 FA Cup final. It’s a big boost having Alexis in the squad for this weekend’s clash.
