The agent of young Argentinian striker, Lautaro Martinez, believes that his client will sign for Atletico Madrid this summer for a fee believed to be in the region of €10m.

Arsenal had been linked with the 20-year-old at the start of the year with claims made that they were tracking the Racing Club be Avellaneda player.

Speaking to Fox Sports Argentina (and translated by Football-Espana), Rolando Zarate said, “There is a 99 percent chance that the deal will be done. Lautaro asked us expressly for the transfer to be nailed down.

“He likes the idea of Atletico Madrid and they have agreed to it.

“He wants to remain for another season because he wants to play the Copa Libertadores with Racing.”

Martinez is a right-footed centre forward and a move to Spain makes more sense than one to London. For a start, it is easier for South Americans to get work permits in Spain and it is unlikely that Martinez would have been granted one had Arsenal pursued their interest.

Then you have the whole sunny weather v lots of rain situation and the familiarity of the Spanish culture which makes settling in a foreign country a lot easier for many South Americans.

Martinez has seven goals in 11 appearances for Argentina’s u20 side and has scored five goals in 23 Primer Division matches, assisting one, and picking up three yellows and one red.
