West Ham are still interested in signing Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud despite chasing Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez.

  • West Ham’s first choice would be Hernandez
  • However, they remain interested in Giroud in case they can’t do a deal

West Ham search for a striker continues and it seems they’ve identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Javier Hernandez as a realistic option. The former-Manchester United striker has been prolific in Germany and could leave Leverkusen after opting not to extend his contract.

However, despite being burned by previous chases, West Ham retain an interest in Olivier Giroud, according to the Metro. It was reported earlier this summer that West Ham would be willing to pay whatever it took to sign Giroud, and they were confident that he’d want to sign for them.

Their interest in Hernandez suggests otherwise and it seems a bit odd to have the more expensive signing as a backup option. The Hammers have Giroud and Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi down as backup targets in case they can’t Hernandez.
