Arsene Wenger confirmed that Theo Walcott is still struggling with the bug that swept through the Arsenal camp during their Arsenal tour.

The speedster was missing from Arsenal’s defeat at the hands of Chelsea in their final pre-season tour game of the summer. It is perhaps no surprise the entire team seemed well underpar given the way the bug hit the team, but while many recovered in order to take their place against Antonio Conte’s men, Walcott did not.

“Theo is not ready, but it’s nothing major,” Wenger said before the game on Saturday afternoon.

While Arsenal could look to a poor pitch, warm weather and weakness following the bug that hit earlier in the week, the fact is this game probably taught Arsene Wenger more about his players than all the others, especially the youngsters involved.

I’d be fairly confident that by the time the Community Shield gets the season underway, Arsenal will turn up with a completely different performance.

Besides….Wembley!
