Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is reportedly back on Arsenal’s radar, with manager Arsene Wenger keeping an eye on the side’s depth at the back ahead of the new campaign.

According to the Metro, the Dutch international could still be on his way out of St Mary’s this summer despite a previously proposed move breaking down after allegations of tapping up.

Liverpool are believed to be leading the chase for his signature, but Manchester City and Arsenal are also in the reckoning – the latter of whom could be short at the back ahead of the new season.

Gabriel Paulista will be injured, Laurent Koscielny turns 32 in September and is struggling with muscle injuries, while Mertesacker turns 33 the same month and has made just one appearance since 2015/16.

Van Dijk’s asking price could be anywhere up to £60m, but Arsenal are reportedly set to offer £45mfor his services. With Arsenal to continue their 3-4-2-1 formation next season, they’ll desperate need another centre-back this summer.
