Despite previous reports claiming that Jack Wilshere was back in full training with the rest of the Arsenal squad, this doesn’t seem to be the case as the Gunners prepare for the Emirates Cup.

ESPN insisted on Thursday that Wilshere, who was sidelined in April with a hairline fracture to his left fibula while on loan at Bournemouth, was back in full training ahead of the Emirates Cup this weekend.

However, while the midfielder was pictured in training, Arsene Wenger claims that he’s not yet in ‘full’ training. He’s just ‘close’.

Meanwhile, Gabriel, who ruptured his cruciate ligament against Everton on the final day of the Premier League season, isn’t due to return for ‘a few weeks’ yet.

“I would say that Gabriel is still a few weeks away because he has an inflammation of his bone,” Wenger explained to Arsenal’s website.

Other than Santi Cazorla, who I’m starting to believe we all imagined, no one else is out.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide featured in Arsenal u23s’ 4-0 thumping of Boreham Wood FC on Thursday night, suggesting that he’s now match-fit after being sidelined back in April. However, according to Arsenal.com, he’s not been included in the Emirates Cup squad.

Arsenal face Benfica on Saturday at 4:20pm before playing Sevilla at the same time on Sunday.

The Emirates Cup is a great opportunity for Arsene Wenger to field two different teams in order to scope out which players are looking ready for the season, and which ones still need to work on their fitness before next month.
