Wojciech Szczesny has revealed the chance to study under Gianluigi Buffon was a factor in helping him decide to join Juventus.

The Pole broke hearts across Daily Cannon with his decision to call it quits on his Arsenal career. We’ve always been his biggest fans, sure that he was destined to be the club’s number one for the next decade.

Alas, it seems as if he will become a Juve legend rather than an Arsenal one as he looks forward to succeeding arguably the best goalkeeper the game has ever seen.

Still, at least we have Ospina, eh?

“Was Buffon’s presence a factor? Yes, yes because I want to improve so there’s no better opportunity to do that than training with Gianluigi Buffon,” he told JTV, as reported by Football Italia.

“He’s one of the best, or the best, goalkeepers in history, not just the history of Italian football but football all over the world.

“Now I have the opportunity to train with him, I want to improve and learn from him.

“I’m not finished, I’m a goalkeeper who always wants to improve. I’m an explosive, I like to make these saves which seem impossible.

“I still have to improve in terms of consistency though, because I want to be a goalkeeper on Buffon’s level, or at least close.

“You have to reach that level in every game, not just in two or three games per season. So I have to improve.”

No keeper kept more cleansheets in Serie A last season than Woj and it is so easy to see how he can become their number one.

We will probably never know why Arsene Wenger saw fit to let him go, but it will surely be a decision the club regret.

Given the fact he was fighting back tears when talking about leaving Arsenal, Woj would have stayed if Arsenal had truly made it clear they wanted him.
