Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is due to hold talks with Jose Mourinho over his future at the club.

  • Arsenal have been linked with the centre back
  • His preference would be to stay at United
  • He would only move to a Champions League

Smalling’s future at United looks in doubt after the signing of Swedish centre back Victor Lindelof. With first-team opportunities looking like they’ll be harder to come by, Smalling will hold talks with Jose Mourinho to clarify his position at the club, reports the Daily Mail.

It’s understood he wants to stay at Manchester United. Should he leave, he would only join a club in the Champions League. That could be bad news for Arsenal, who have been linked with Smalling more times than you’d expect.

Arsenal will, of course, not be in the Champions League next season, so they may not even be considered by Smalling. Just imagine being rejected by Chris Smalling, of all players.
