Arsene Wenger is tracking the progress of Eintracht Frankfurt wonderkid Aymen Barkok, with reports that they’ve recently made a formal bid to sign the creative midfielder.

According to German news outlet Spox, Arseanal have already tabled a bid just below €10m (£8.8m) and Wenger is said to have been watching the teenager for a while now.

Barkok, 19, made his first-team breakthrough with the Bundesliga side last season and has impressed many with his progress. He netted two goals and created two further assists in 18 appearances, having played in a variety of different positions from central midfield, on the wing to his preferred place in the number ten role.

His playing style and attributes have drawn comparisons to that of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, who has also been linked with a possible switch to the Emirates this summer.

Having been rewarded for his progress with a call-up to Germany’s u19 side in March, he featured in all of their European Championship qualifiers and scored their only goal during a 4-1 defeat against Holland in the first group stage fixture earlier this week.

Arsenal’s reported bid is said to have been submitted before Germany u19s’ 3-0 win over Bulgaria yesterday evening and intriguingly, Barkok didn’t feature on this occasion.
