Speaking to the media during Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Australia, German playmaker Mesut Özil has said he hopes Alexis Sanchez will stay this summer.

Özil spoke of his desire to remain at Arsenal and discuss an extension to his contract once they all return to London from their tour. He then went on to discuss the future of the other star player with an expiring contract, Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean international was a standout performer last season, scoring 30 goals and adding 19 assists in all competitions. Mesut and Alexis have developed a good partnership on the pitch, with Alexis assisting five of Özil’s goals in the Premier League, so it’s understandable he would want Sanchez to stick around.

Ozil spoke to Sky Sports, saying: “I hope Alexis stays but I don’t know what the status is, to be honest. I value him a lot as a player and he’s very well suited to the game Arsenal play. From a personal view I’d really appreciate if he stays, but it’s the player’s decision after all and there’s not much more I can comment on that.”

Hopefully Özil can convince Alexis to stick around, because with two of them could see Arsenal challenge for the title again.
