Nigel Winterburn has said he hopes the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette will help convince Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal.

  • Alexis has been heavily linked with a move away
  • He’s reportedly unhappy at Arsenal and wants to win trophies else where
  • Lacazette could help Arsenal get closer to the Premier League title

Alexis’ future is up in the air as he enters the final year of his contract. Initially, reports suggested that he wanted to leave Arsenal so that he could win trophies else where, possibly at Manchester City.

But recent reports from Chile and now saying that he could stay for next season. This would be good news for Arsenal, who would have another year to convince to sign a new contract.

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn believes that the signing of Lacazette could help the club accomplish that.

“I hope the Lacazette deal leaves [Sanchez] at the club. He can play on the left, up front or in the hole. Arsenal cannot afford to bring in Lacazette then two weeks later Sanchez leaves,” he said, as quoted by the Mirror.

“I am hoping Wenger can persuade him to stay for another season, see what happens with the team then sign a new contract.”

Lacazette should improve the Arsenal team and could elevate them closer to the Premier League title. With a couple more signings on top of that, Alexis’ ambition of winning major trophies could yet be realised at the Emirates.
