Rather than focus on a win Sami Mokbel describes as ‘as emphatic as they come’, the Mail on Sunday have chosen to focus on the idiot that abused Arsene Wenger during Arsenal’s 5-2 win over Benfica.
While the Mail Online‘s match report has skipped right to the bit where they, you know, talk about the football players scoring goals and stuff, in the print version almost half the report (99/246 words) is taken up talking about the ‘fan’ who decided to launch himself at the manager in the first half.
The Emirates Cup win was indeed emphatic. While the first half was let down by Arsenal’s characteristically bizarre defending, the second half was much better.
Theo Walcott, despite having a poor pre-season so far, netted two over the course of the match, Olivier Giroud scored once, Benfica’s Lisandro poked the ball into his own net, and Alex Iwobi thumped in a stunner to make it five.
They were Iwobi and Giroud’s second goals each of pre-season.
Former Schalke full-back, Sead Kolasinac, was huge in more ways than one, nabbing as assist for Theo’s first, 17-year-old Reiss Nelson was unbelievable, and Alexandre Lacazette got a 14-minutes run out.
See, there were plenty of talking points that don’t involve giving the idiot that attempted to ruin a family day out attention.
The abuser, not Wenger… Ba-dum tshh.
