Lyon have confirmed Alexandre Lacazette’s transfer fee.

  • Lyon say the fee is just over £52m, including add-ons
  • The fee is a record for both Arsenal and Lyon
  • Lyon president Aulas has thanked Lacazette for his contribution

Where Arsenal have gone with the old staple of “undisclosed fee”, Lyon have decided to announce to the world exactly how much money they’re getting.

In a statement, Lyon said: “Olympique Lyonnais has agreed to transfer its international striker Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal for a maximum of €60 million, including €7 million in incentives.”

In terms of pounds, Arsenal will pay £46.5m up front and then an addition £6.1m in incentives. That would make Lacazette Arsenal’s record signing, beating the £42.5m paid for Mesut Ozil, although Arsenal have yet to acknowledge this.

The fee also places Lacazette in the top five most expensive Premier League transfers. It’s also a record for Lyon, as it’s the most they’ve ever received for a single player.

Lyon president Jean Michael-Aulas, who was a vocal and somewhat annoying presence throughout the whole deal, has wished Lacazette well in his new venture.

“I am very pleased about Alexandre’s success. Apart from being one of the best attackers Olympique Lyonnais has ever known, Alexandre has a certain charm, and I have become attached to him.

“He is now a very responsible and ambitious young man and will carry the image of OL into the Premier League.”
