Juventus are set to make an improved bid for Wojciech Szczęsny, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport

As reported by Calcio Mercato, La Gazzetta Dello Sport are claiming that Juventus are preparing to make a £7m bid for Arsenal’s Polish number one, after their initial £4m bid was rejected.

With Arsenal reportedly holding out for between £13m and £18m, and with Jordan Pickford’s recent £30m move from Sunderland to Everton, this latest bid from the Italians still seems to be way off the mark.

Whilst on loan at Roma last season, Szczęsny kept more clean sheets (14) in Serie A than anyone else, so Juventus’ interest is hardly surprising.

With Buffon now 39, and aiming to retire after the 2018 World Cup, they’re on the lookout for an understudy. Donnarumma seemed to be the obvious choice, but with it now seeming more likely that he’ll extend with Milan, Juventus have apparently turned to Szczęsny.

But whilst this move makes a lot of sense for Juventus, Arsenal should be aiming to get significantly more than £7m for the 27 year old.

In addition, with Szczęsny being quoted earlier in the summer by the Guardian as saying that he wants to “make sure [he doesn’t] stand still” with regards to his career, it doesn’t seem to be the best decision for him to sit on the bench at Juventus, especially with the World Cup next summer.

With the first pre-season matches starting next week on 13th July, Arsenal and Szczęsny will be hoping to sort out his future as soon as possible.
