Ian Wright has said that Arsenal should pay Alexis £400k per week to keep him at the club.

  • Alexis reportedly wants £400k per week to sign contract extension
  • Wright believes Arsenal have to pay that much to keep him

Last week, John Cross of the The Mirror reported that the Chilean was demanding £400k-per-week to stay at Arsenal.

The news received mixed reactions, to say the least. Arsenal supporters were divided over whether Alexis was really worth that much money.

Pundit and Arsenal fan Ian Wright, though, believes the Gunners should pay Alexis exactly what he wants. In a Twitter exchange with Cross, Wright said:

There are some concerns such a lucrative contract could have a destabilising effect among the Arsenal squad.

However, Wright clearly doesn’t see that as an issue, and believes holding onto the player, no matter the cost, is the most important thing.

It’d certainly be frustrating for Arsenal to lose one of their best players over money. There are, though, many factors to consider before handing out such a large salary to a player.

To simply give in to a player’s wage demands would send the wrong signal. Alexis’ contract situation looks set to drag for a few more weeks yet.
